The Amazing Bush Walk!

A few weeks ago in Te Ngahere we went for a bush walk. We started from a bridge then we crossed the bridge until we reached a muddy track and it made my shoes really muddy. We walked and walked up a steep hill it was really tiring. We saw lots of streams and cliffs on the way eventually we saw another bridge with a stream under it. We sat down and watched the stream and we saw tiny baby fish, and huge beetles.

After half an hour we walked back this time it was way less tiring. I fell over once of twice, but that was ok. When we got over the bridge I saw a huge scary spider I think it was a white tail. Then we sat on a hill and took a picture of the hole class. Have you ever been on a bush walk?

The Phenomenal Episode!

This week in Te Ngahere we watched an episode of Our Planet. It was about coastal seas. It was phenomenal.  When we were watching it we had to write down facts about what we heard about sharks otter dolphins ect. I put down 26 facts. After the episode we had to make a presentation about our facts from the coastal seas. The narrator of the coastal seas was David Attenborough.

Here are some of my facts about sharks: When sharks open their mouths they let all the little fish called wrasse eat the bacteria off the sharks teeth this is a  mutualism relationship, because the reward for the sharks is to have a good night feast and the reward for the wrasse is the food of the sharks teeth.

Here are some more facts about sea otters: Otters fur keeps them warm from cold waters, sea otters have the most dense fur out of all sea creatures, otters' favourite food is sea urchins for example Kina.

Have you ever seen a shark?

The Delicious Lunch At Greens!

Yesterday as a class we went to a restaurant for lunch called Greens, because it was Shivam's birthday. We ate butter chicken for lunch and it was delightful.

When I ate the butter chicken I felt like I was in a dream, that's why i’m going back there one day! As it was Shivam’s birthday we gave him a card it was Angela’s and Jade’s idea and he was happy. Once we had finished eating we had a big surprise. In the distance I saw a shopping cart full of easter eggs, Shivam and his family came round and gave us each one and I got a pineapple lump one. That was nice to. We said thank you to his family by singing some songs.

Have you ever been to a restaurant for lunch with your class?

Fantastic Strategies!

In Te Ngahere this week we have been learning about which strategies are the best for subtracting. We found out that place value is not a good strategy, but we think equal addition is a good strategy and so is number line. So in this blog I am going to be showing you why equal addition is a good strategy for me.

So when I have been learning about equal addition I know it is a good strategy because if you had 263 - 189 you could add 11 to 189 which would be 200, then you would have to add 11 to 263 as well to make it equal so that would make 274 so 274 - 200 which is easy so it equals 74. Have you ever done equal additions.?  Here is a video to show you what I mean.
