Amazing Science Fair Reflection!

 Hey bloggers, last week in Te Ngahere we were doing our science fair boards/experiments. I learnt what a controlled variable is, a controlled variable is a variable that you have to keep control of, like when we had to leave the stains on the fabric out for an hour we accidentally left it for an hour and twenty minutes, so that a variable we should of controlled. There is also another variable we should of controlled, the other variable is that when we put the pieces of fabric with the stains on into the washing machine we put them on top of each other so one of the stains got into the other pieces, so once again that is another variable we should of controlled. What I think was difficult was our method, because in our method we had to really explain how we did our science experiment, so I gathered all my hoe and wrote that method, and it ended up AMAZING. Aslo next time if we ever even do this again I would, make sure we controlled the variables and not put them on top of each other. The reason why I used my hoe was because, my hoe helps me to get things done and the best hoe I used was kaha (being strong.)

The Great Marble Challenge!

 Kia ora bloggers, last week in Te Ngahere we were making marble ramps. What my group did well was creating a ramp that rolled a marble almost 1.1m. What we could’ve done better is to make the angle higher so the marble would go closer to the point. Overall, we got 6 points. We think that we explained the instructions well because we got 6 points. If we had an opportunity to design a new ramp we would change the angle and make the instructions clearer.

Amazing Science Roadshow!

 Kia ora bloggers, last week in Te Ngahere we went on this amazing trip to the Bay of Islands college for a Science Roadshow. I learnt that in science it’s not just about experimenting it’s about having a hypothesis to (a hypothesis is to guess something). My most favourite exhibit at the Science Roadshow was the different types of honey tasting because one it was delicious and the learning part was figuring out what makes some of the honeys taste different. When I went to the Science Roadshow it gave me some ideas for what I should do with my project, the ideas it gave me was that I should maybe have something like the honey tasting but instead of honey maybe I could do something else. I think the reason why we went to the Science Roadshow was to learn more about science, and obviously to give us some ideas for what to do with our project.

Incredible Scientific Method!

 Kia ora bloggers, last week in Te Ngahere we made a DLO about the steps of the scientific method. We were learning this because we made an infographic of the steps of the scientific method and because the science fair is coming up. From what I have learnt I will ask questions and test before I do something that I’m not sure of. What I think I did well was making the DLO, like putting pictures and explaining the steps properly so people understand. What I think I could of done better is maybe add a few more pictures.

My Amazing Mosaic Art!

 Hi bloggers, this week in Te Ngahere we made these awesome mosaic arts on a Google drawing. We had to use a tool called polyline to create our mosaic of an animal, plant or even an anime character. The polyline helps to create a shape to go over the thing you have chosen to do. We were doing this to create QR codes to put around our school to explain about lots of different plants and animals and why me need them. I really enjoyed doing this mosaic art because it teaches you something new like how to use the tool and it is really fun. For my mosaic art I chose to do a giraffe and it turned out really good.

Amazing Pick a Path!

Last week in Te Ngahere I made a Pick a Path. We did this to share what we had learnt from when we went to Urupukapuka with the Project Island Song Team (go check that post). The things that I learnt is not to leave rubbish on a pest free island. This is bad because you could kill the wildlife like the beautiful birds that live there. What I think I did well was think of very good questions for the people to answer like; if you saw a rat on one of the pest free islands would you tell someone to get rid of it. What I could do better next time is explain why the person is correct and incorrect.

Trip To Urupukapuka!

 This week in Te Ngahere the year six’s went on a trip to Urupukapuka one of the 7 islands in Ipipiri. We went there with the Project Island Song team because, they were showing our class how they keep the pests away from the islands the pests they were talking about was, rats, stoats, possums and red ants. They try to get rid of the rats, stoats and possums by setting up traps around the island with food inside to trap them when they walk in. Also I learnt that the difference between manuka and kanuka it that manuka is mean and kanuka is kind. Here is some things that we saw and did on the trip:  Once we got to Urupukapuka Island we ate morning tea. After morning tea we walked up a steep hill to a pohutukawa tree. Then we walked back down the other side of the hill to where people have planted things and we planted a tree called a beach tree. Then we walked back up the hill then we came back and had lunch. After lunch we got into a group of three and made rat traps for our school.  Have you ever been to Urupukapuka?

Amazing Smart Relationships!

 This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about Smart Relationships. We had to watch a Youtube video on how to stay safe online. Then we had to make 2 google presentations on how to stay safe ourselves. We were learning to do this because it is super important to know how to stay safe, just in case anything bad happens like you get kidnapped. In the future to stay safe from now on I will change my profile on all the apps I have because on one of the apps I have, it has a picture of me in front of my car with the number plate showing. This is bad because you never know someone could be tracking your car. I find this scary because it makes me feel like I am being tracked down because of my number plate (but now it has been changed).

My Incredible Narrative!

 This week in Te Ngahere we made a Narrative about a story called WIng. It is a video on youtube and we had to rewrite a scene of it and add lots of detail. Here is my Narrative:

The sky was murky and unable to see. A petrified creature ran into the forest with only one wing to spare. When he was home he dashed upstairs to make a new wing. The petrified creature made his new wing and shot out of a large grey catapult. He was spinning round and round in the murky sky where the stars were glistening brightly. Until bang, he dropped on the barky forest floor; his wooden wing shattered as he was flying in the sky. He was unconscious but when his dark brown eyes opened, there were four awful-looking creatures. They had a beak as sharp as a shark's tooth, wings as sharp as a machete. Then a moment later there was a young fearless girl who was playing a mournful sound on a flute as her fingers moved mildly across the flute, she was trying to save the petrified creature's life. The machete-winged creatures didn't like the sound of the mournful flute playing so they rushed into the deep dark wood following the girl and then grabbed her and tugged on her wing until the wing hacked off of the fearless girl. The fearless girl was hurt and was dirty and covered in mud and bark, the petrified creature walked over to the girl and covered up her wound from the wing. They could hear the machete-winged creatures in the deep dark forest ahead, the gorgeous girl and the boy held hands, and with one wing each, they flew into the murky sky. The machete-winged creatures walked to where the girl and the boy flew off and they snapped the girl’s wooden flute into smithereens. Have you ever written anything with this much detail?   

My Amazing Ngahere Report!

 This week in Te Ngahere we finally finished our Ngahere report. How we made our Ngahere report was we made a google doc and wrote facts about silver ferns then we put a source going to where we found the information. We did this because we were basically making a script to help people know what a silver fern is. We are going to put a sign on a tree like one of those covid traser things and they would scan it and it would go to a video about silver ferns. What I did well was reading the teachers feedback and trying to fix it. Next time I could fix the feedback a little faster.

My Holiday in Tutukaka!

On the holidays I went on holiday with my 2 brothers, mum and dad. We went to a place called Tutukaka and we stayed in a motel called The Pacific Rendezvous. It had a Spa a hot tub and a pool it even had a tennis court and a gaming room and two private beaches. Most of the time we spent was in the hot tub and the pool but the pool was freezing cold. One of the times we went to one of the private beaches and snorkeled all day it was super clear. We saw lots of piper, kina and mullet. Have you ever been snorkeling before?
